Theatre de la Mode

Fashion designer Chris Kelly launched his own label Theatre de la Mode in autumn 2007.
The first collection he presented was a full range of men's and womenswear in miniture scale during London fashion week.
For the debut collection 'Willows', bespoke miniture figurines of woodland creatures were created to display the garments from the collection. The detail that goes into these handmade figures gives them a real doll like sense of character and childlike appeal.
This image connects back to the title of the collection, 'Willows' which was inspried by the classic children's story of 'Wind in the Willows'. I really like the idea of using animal figures instead of humans to present the collection as this gives the concept a real fantasy feel.
This has made me realise that infact, alot of classic children's stories have that fantasy edge and that is why we love them so much because they allow us to escape into a magical world where anything is possible.

What is my Philosophy??

As part of this unit we have been asked to consider our own design philosophy, as the work we produce for this project has to ultimately reflect our own unique fashion exploration. To be honest, I am quite unsure how to pin-point what my fashion philosophy is all about.
However, I do know that from work experience I carried out in the summer with the buying team at Per Una, I would love to work in this field of fashion. One of the most exciting things I discovered, is that you get to see first hand what is new for the coming season, six months before anyone else does. It was literally like being a kid in a sweet shop everyday I went into the office! This has also increased my interest in fashion forecasting, and having an 'eye' for predicting what the customer will want to be wearing in the not so distant future.
Currently, I have started looking through and sorting out all the lookbooks I have collected over the years, as I am always on the hunt for them when I go into any high end fashion stores. I love how they feel like they are giving you access to the clothes and lifestyle, even if you can't afford the price tag that is printed on the page.
I also hope to bring my own style and what I love about fashion into my final outcome. My style is anything femminine and girly, and I am at my happiest when I get to dress up for a night out.
I love how fashion can give you the confidence to pretend to be something else and escape into another way of life. I think this all stems back to dressing up in my mum's dresses when I was little and pretending I was a princess!
Fashion has the ablitiy to let your mind wander and escape into your own fantasy world, and I hope to find a way of achieving this in my work for this unit.
Therefore I have decided to concentrate on producing a lookbook, which will incorporate a photoshoot with the starting themes of escapism and fantasy.
